The two New York based artists previously collaborated for “A Cautionary Tale” (A Palazzo Gallery, Brescia, 2017) and “31 Candles” (Dorich House Museum, London, 2017). Displaying both new artworks by each artist and pieces conceived together on site, the exhibition looks into the complex systems of affections framing our relationship to objects and their context, spanning from the domestic to the public sphere and ultimately to the art display.
As per their past collaborations, Kronz and Reaves embrace the specificity of the location of the exhibition. The visibly layered history of High Art’s space (a XII century chapel turned horse barn, then garage and finally art gallery) resonates as the artists fill it with objects which appear to perform a multitude of roles at once. Odd scales and wobbly shapes are employed by the duo in an unrestrained fabrication process with humor and spontaneity. The result is an ensemble of sculptures imitating furniture imitating sculptures. The uncanny, however welcoming display hosts a series of loosely rendered sculptures/lamps by Jessi Reaves and a group of Kronz’s wall works borrowing from the codes of musical awards.
