Philipp Timischl

Philipp Timischl - HIGH ART
Philipp Timischl amalgamates divergent forms of display to construct pictures of heightened affect and reflexivity.

Canvases, screens, windows and walls are aligned, collaged and automated to generate outputs of distinct subjectivities. Obsessively sourcing elements of personal and found ephemera, Timischl creates narrative voices that manoeuver between documentation and fiction, often through intimacy, self-reference and humour. Steeped in semiotic shifts and visual leaps, the works constitute both subject and setting, occasionally drawing you into a narrative or speaking directly at you as a presence, voicing thoughts on heritage, exclusion, queerness, social class and the dynamics of power between art, the artist and the audience. Existing in choreographed loops, Timischl’s works sharply render the mediated nature of contemporary existence and the unsayable boundaries of our collective public sphere.

Philipp Timischl was born in 1989 in Graz, Austria. He currently lives and works in Paris, France. Recent solo and duo exhibitions include: Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen, Siegen, Germany; Lundgren gallery, Palma, Spain; Heidelberger Kunstverein, Heidelberg, Germany; Fondation Fiminco, Paris, France; Secession, Vienna, Austria; Fondation d’entreprise Pernod Ricard, Paris, France; Halle für Kunst, Lüneburg; Galerie Emanuel Layr, Vienna, Austria; Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt, Germany; 21er Haus, Vienna, Austria.
